Edited and introduction by C. F. Leyel. London: Penguin, 1931. (A treasure trove of historical information about herbs from all over the world, also including some cultivation - better on folklore than actual medicinal uses.)

Griggs, Barbara. Green Pharmacy: The History and Evolution of Western Herbal Medicine. Rochester, Vermont: Healing Arts Press, 1981. (A very comprehensive account of the development of the use of herbs as medicine since classical times.)

Hoffman, David. The New Holistic Herbal.. Shaftsbury, Dorset: Element, 1986. (Ideal for anyone wanting to treat themselves, as this book includes a wide range of herbs, actions and dosages plus fairly comprehensive suggestions for ailments arranged according to systems of the body. As always, if a problem persists, consult a qualified practitioner.)
